Community builds water supply system to school

THE Divanap people in Telefomin, West Sepik have built a water supply system for the new Sinon Memorial Junior High School.
Teacher Mitchel Sel, while thanking the community and students for the initiative, said the school was opened this year with only one class of grade seven.
“The water source is located 600m away from the school and the students and the community members completed 200m of water piping system using bamboos last week and completed the remaining 400m on Monday.
“The long-awaited dream of accessing clean water for drinking and cooking at the school became a reality,” he said.
He said the successful implementation of the 600m bamboo pipes project was a milestone for the school community.
He said 120 bamboo pipes were used to ensure the smooth flow of clean water to the school.
“Our commitment and perseverance have made a lasting impact, providing a sustainable solution for clean water access,” Sel said. The Oksapmin people living in Tabubil, Western also in contributing cash and kind to assist the school administration to build infrastructures for the new school.
“They have donated water hoses, solar panels, and stationaries, cooking utensil, solar batteries and cables,” he said.
