THE people of Collingwood Bay in Northern will soon start benefitting from a tractor to be used in agriculture.
The tractor was purchased by the Ijivitari development authority (DDA) for K196,000 to help rejuvenate farms and a small-holder plantation at Dirudan in Wanigela.
Ijivitari MP’s first secretary Windsor Claude said Wanigela had a small-holder plantation.
“This tractor will not only serve the Wanigela community but the whole of Collingwood Bay,” Claude said.
Jerryom Kiwirin, chief of the Ubiri tribe in Wanigela, Tufi local level government area, received the Kubota M7040 tractor from Brian Bell marketing manager Ashley Swyne last Friday.
Kiwirin thanked the DDA board for listening to their cries, adding that it would support the small-holder cocoa project that had been deteriorating over the years due to lack of government service in the area.
“We’ve been neglected for almost 40 years now and this form of support from the district means a lot to us,” he said.
“It will not just help in agriculture projects but also in humanitarian assistance such as transportation and emergency runs for the Wanigela health centre from the beach.”
