COMMUNITY health workers (CHW) from Telefomin, West Sepik, who graduated from Min-Baptist Community Health Worker training college, will be posted to aid posts in four local level government areas of Telefomin.
Telefomin MP Solan Mirisim made this during the graduation of 30 CHWs from the Min-Baptist Community Health Worker training college in Telefomin last week.
“These CHW graduates have secured their posting and will be paid by Telefomin development authority (DDA) until such time when the provincial health authority (PHA) create positions so they can be placed under the Alesco payroll,” he said.
“I can confirm that their medical kits and medical stock are still being procured and would arrive in the district next week,” Mirisim said.
He said when that arrives they would then send them to each of the aid post identified for the CHWs.
“In the following week pay day, these CHW graduates would be on payroll of the DDA and that is something we would continue to do into the future,” he said.
Mirisim also highlighted some major health plan for the district that would see the upgrade of the Telefomin District Hospital:

  •  NEW infrastructure which is already underway with planning and costing and tender to be announced in June;
  • 30 new staff houses;
  • NEW CHW training School facility to be build next to the hospital; and,
  •  IN the future, look into building a general nursing school in the district.

He said Telefomin DDA would provide financial support of K300,000 to the school every year.
Public Service Minister and Nuku MP Joe Sungi, who also attended the graduation, said: “This is a church-run school, so always promote the good principles and doctrine of the church, and be a role model in your community and at your workplace.”
