The National masthead competition is allowing people the opportunity to earn cash, this week’s winners say.
One will use the money to renew her passport for a planned trip to Fiji to attend a church conference, another for bus fares and lunch while attending school and one to repay a debt.
“I have never won a competition like this in my entire life,” Rhoda Eresi said when she picked up her K250 prize at The National office in Waigani this week.
Eresi is from Manuguro village in Rigo, Central.
She said her passport would expire on Oct 22 so she would like to renew it. It would cost her K100.
She intends to attend the “Women in Faith” conference in Fiji next year.
Another winner, Divana Orowa, 19, from Abau, Central, said he was so happy with the K250 and would use it for bus fares.
Divana is studying at the University of Papua New Guinea Open College. He lives at Bomana and goes for classes which costs him K4 in bus fares daily.
Divana said he was a big soccer fan and loves reading the sports section and getting updates on soccer from The National.
Another winner in Port Moresby, Chue Lartoffe, from Okapa in Eastern Highlands, said he had debts to settle and the K250 prize should help in the repayment.
“I have a lot of debt to repay and my fortnight is next week. The debtors want their money this week and I can’t repay them, but thanks to The National, I am free,” he said.
Chue is an accountant with Lombange and Associates. He lives at Saraka Market at 6-Mile.
He said he loved reading sports and business in the paper.
“We Eastern Highlanders love rugby and we love our Lahanis.
“I buy The National every day and my wife sometimes gets cross at me for spending K2 every day on news. But I do it anyway.
“I always read sports first, then news about the government, and finally business,” he said.
