THE National Capital District Football Association is impressed with the performance of young talents throughout its short season, with the grand final set for Saturday at the PNG Football Stadium.
Association president Vonnie Kapi Natto said although the season was cut-short due to the civil unrest last month, they reached new goals to identify the next crop of footballers.
“We started our season late last year thinking that it would be prolonged into this year, however due to the recent crisis within the city, it has disrupted our competitions, therefore we had to cut it short,” Kapi Natto said.
“However within the short time-frame, we have seen a vast number of talents who have showed potential especially in the U15, U17 boys and girls divisions.”
She said the attendance on the first day was unbelievable with kids turning up in numbers to play.
“It was a school holiday when we commenced the NCDFA season and the attendance especially for the U15 division was unbelievable,” she said.
“We also had parents showing up with appreciation that it was a good time to keep their children busy.
“We are really impressed with the talents and we will welcome them back for another season later this year.
“This time we will include the U12 divisions among the U15, U17, U19, U23 and the A-League teams.”
She said competitions that include young children help develop a pathway to identify more talents.
“We have 18 clubs who have shown interest to be part of the season and this interest is the main drive we are looking to upskill more young footballers through this platform moving forward.”
