RICE company Trukai Industries Ltd has donated four tonnes of its product to four major hospitals around the country to assist them with food supplies during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Port Moresby General Hospital, Angau Memorial Hospital, Goroka and Mt Hagen hospitals all receive a tonne of rice each this week.
The company’s marketing manager Maryanne Tom said the donation was part of the company’s corporate responsibility.
“Despite these challenging times, we are happy that as a business we are able to continue our community programmes in giving back to the communities in which we live and operate in,” she said.
“Our hospitals need our support to help them get through these very challenging times.”
Tom said the company was proud of the work it did to support the people and local community and it had started supporting Port Moresby General Hospital last April during the first lockdown with monthly rice donations.
“We also provide similar support to St John Ambulance in Port Moresby to help with catering purposes for their volunteers to ensure there they continue to provide critical health care and services for our people in the communities.”
Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) chief executive officer Dr Paki Molumi thanked Trukai Industries for the timely support.
He said the donated rice would go towards feeding more than 50 Covid-19 patients that were admitted at PMGH and the 30 at the Rita Flynn complex in Boroko, Port Moresby.
Dr Molumi said the donation would also support PMGH staff that had been infected and were in isolation.
