MOROBE’S newest tuna fish cannery Nambawan Seafoods Ltd in Lae has donated three 2000-litre water tanks to the Ahi local level government (LLG) worth K6189 as part of its community and social responsibilities.
Nambawan Seafoods general-manager Mathew Luyt said it was important for investors to contribute meaningfully to local communities they were located in.
“We believe that what we are giving will help to benefit the communities in the LLG,” he said.
Luyt said the company was not only providing employment for local people but also helping to improve their living standards.
He said the tanks were not the first donation that the company had made in its six months of operations.
Ahi LLG president David Sam Agi said Nambawan Seafoods was the first company located in the LLG that had given support to its programmes to support delivery of clean water and sanitation services.
“I thank the company of the behalf of the Government of the day,” he said.
Agi said what Nambawan Seafoods had done should be an example to other investors in the LLG.
The tanks will be passed on to selected elementary schools or churches in Ahi LLG.
