A SECOND-hand clothing company on Friday opened a shop in Lae to add to its 29 shops around the country.
Managing director of Naiko Ltd Chris Kopyoto said they had shops already set up in Port Moresby, Lae, Kainantu, Goroka, Mt Hagen and Southern Highlands and parts of the Highlands.
The shop located at Eriku in Lae sells second-hand clothes from Australia and New Zealand.
“The shop provides employment 30 plus people,” Kopyoto said.
According to Kopyoto, the clothing company has been donating clothes to rural people in many parts of the country over the years.
“We donate 40 per cent of the clothes to people in need, those in remote areas,” he said.
Two months ago, the company donated second-hand clothing to people in Kikori, Gulf.
Kopyoto said the shop would buy clothes sewn by local women.
Lae City Authority chief executive officer Neill Ellery said everyone should support local businesses.
Ellery said Kopyoto started off the clothing business in the 90s with 50 employees.
He now employs more than 2,000 staff.
