Competition good for customers: Trukai chief

Competition in the rice industry has increased which is good for consumers, Trukai chief executive officer Greg Worthington-Eyre says.
“What we have seen in the total market is that it has actually declined slightly,” he said.
“I think with the economic condition here in PNG, the consumption, the ability, purchasing power of the community has reduced a little bit and I think we are seeing a slight retraction of the market size in PNG.
“The market has tended to grow with the population, it has flattened out and slightly decline over the last two years.”
Meanwhile, Worthington-Eyre said the company will continue with its corporate social responsibility.
“We do put back into the communities and one of the things that I am certainly proud of is our sponsorship of a company Manalos Aviation based in Lae,” he said.
Worthington-Eyre said supporting Manalos Aviation over the past three years was “heartfelt”.
“They have done more than 250 evacuations in the last 12 months and I think they do similar numbers every year.
“So over the course of time, there are thousands of women and young children that benefit from the work that Manalos do, and the support from Trukai.
“They do medevac targeting prenatal mothers in distress from remote villages across this country.
“Over the past three years, particularly, we have sponsored a medical gurney which is specifically designed for prenatal transfer.
“We have also provided handheld remote ultra sound unit so that they can do on-site diagnosis for those flyby ladies and mothers to hospital.
“Recently, we provided them with military night-vision goggles to allow them to do those evacuations.”
