KUMUL Petroleum National Soccer League (NSL) leaders Vitiaz United say they have a lot of work to do to be ready for the resumption of the competition on Aug 1.
Club manager Rogena Strach told The National that they were forced to send their players back to their home provinces when the competition was suspended three months ago.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has put a financial strain on the club,” she said.
“We were thrown a curve ball.
“Everybody’s life came to a standstill.
“And all we could do was sacrifice the club’s vision to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our players and send them back to their places of origin and wait for advice from the Papua New Guinea Football Association on the resumption of the competition.
“The boys were given training schedules to stay fit.
“We haven’t had an opportunity to train as a team yet as the bulk of our players are still outside of Port Moresby and we intend to bring them all in shortly.”
Strach said they would try their best to pick up from where they had left off while focusing on redeveloping the way they train.
“It’s just about the boys refocusing and getting physically and mentally fit to get their routine and discipline going,” she said.
“Apart from pushing their fitness, it’s more about getting the boys into the right frame of mind and refocusing.
“We’ll try to get them into a routine again, shake of the cobwebs and bond again.
“I guess it will be like starting all over again.”
