PORT Moresby’s Bisini Sports Precinct will remain partially closed to sporting activities for the one-month ban on gatherings imposed by the National Control Centre on Sept 24.
Precinct officer-in-charge Emily Maha, from the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation’s venue management team, said all competitions at the venues were now on hold, however, approved training sessions with less than 20 people would go ahead.
“As per the directives from the centre, we are now only allowing gatherings of up to 20 people within the venues,” she told The National.
“So this will include only trainings for squads but in groups of less than 20.
“It is not a complete closure and our gates are still open, but they will only be open under the condition of allowing less than 20 persons in to train.
“Representative squads or team trainings must now organise and divide their squads into small groups for training to continue, given that they follow the condition.”
Maha said competitions were responsible for re-submitting their back-to-sports protocols.
“Logically, we can’t have competitions like rugby union and Aussie Rules because their numbers on the field exceed 20,” she said.
“What is happening now is that competitions like that have to re-submit their Coronavirus protocols to the Niupela Pasin team to resume.
“Once approval is given, we will receive confirmation and liaise with them on their back-to-sports plans, so that we can control and monitor who enters and leaves the venues.”
