A COMPUTER-aided dispatch (CAD) system will be set up in Port Moresby to monitor emergency calls to the Fire Service, acting Chief Fire officer Bill Roo says.
Roo said yesterday during training for officers on the system at the Fire Service headquarters that this was to make sure the firemen responded quickly to calls and the rescues were carried out effectively.
“This would help monitor calls coming into the call centre at the Boroko fire station so that the four fire stations in NCD can be contacted to respond,” Roo said.
He said this was a preparing for emergencies, especially for major events such as the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting in 2018.
Director of the Meridian Systems Brad Roger said the training was to assist the team on how to record and disseminate information from the caller to the stations or the fire trucks.
“What the CAD system will do is that it allows to manage the incidents so that they are able to collect all the information and get them recorded using the system and reply to fire stations to respond,” he said.
“It brings up the map of information so that they can see where the caller is. Then they see which trucks connected to the fire stations can be available for the call.”
