A COMMUNITY leader from Tabuna ward in the Bitapaka local level government (LLG) area of Kokopo, East New Britain, claims that the ENB and Kokopo administrations have been awarding contracts without following proper procedures.
Bruno Tailam said it had come to the attention of people that ENB and Kokopo administrations were not awarding contract on merit but on commission basis.
“We as silent contractors and consultants are now expressing our concerns so that such illegal awarding of contracts must stop,” Tailam said.
“I plead to the public servants responsible to be fair, just and transparent in awarding contracts to our local and genuine contractors.”
Kokopo administrator John Talele in response to the claims said contracts were awarded according to procurement processes and is guided by the Public Finance Management Act .
Talele said in awarding contracts in Kokopo, there were certain things the administration would consider.
