A VARIETY of bills have been passed in Parliament recently, such as the bill for the death penalty, the bill to protect women against violence and so on.

Do most of the people in the country really know or understand the nature of these bills, especially the majority of illiterate people living in rural areas?

It would be very helpful if law enforcing agents and other relevant stakeholders collaborate, conduct  nationwide awareness and spell out clearly what the bills really mean.

What are the penalties and consequences of these bills?

All of it has to be spelled out clearly and digested by all in order to be good, law-abiding citizens.

When considering the incident that occurred on the Black Cat Track recently, it might be due to a lack of not knowing that all these bills were passed in parliament since it happened in a rural area where the culprits could have been illiterate.

I think if they knew about the death penalty bill, then they would have held back from executing their plot.

Therefore, it is important to do nationwide awareness on recently introduced bills.

Otherwise, crime in PNG will remain a chronic disease that will take ages to cure.
