Congregation focuses on women

ELEVEN parishes and five congregations of the Malaclo circuit of the Yabim district of the Evangelical Lutheran church of PNG in Morobe have made a pledge to focus on women’s issues.
The circuit held a women’s conference this week at Buakap village, Salamua local level government, Huon Gulf, which had more than 70 women participants.
Malaclo circuit deputy president Tom Wemalu said the mini-conference was the first of its kind to allow women in the church to discuss issues and agendas affecting them.
“Many times, women in the church do not have that chance to discuss issues, plan activities and work on business that involves them in the church,” he said.
Wemalu said women only had a voice and opportunity to discuss issues as part of circuit general meetings in their local church programmes.
He said the conference would allow women to talk freely to highlight their part in church-related programmes.
He said women had been overlooked by the church for too long and this no doubt had resulted in some of their programmes not being effective.
