HEAVY rain in the Dunatina local level government, Henganofi district in Eastern Highlands, caused heavy flooding.

Food gardens, livestock and homes were destroyed.

Kiviringka Primary School head teacher Philemon Giano said about 10,000 people in Dunatina had been badly affected.

He said classrooms, staff houses and family belongings were damaged by the flood.

Henganofi district administrator Paul Baupe visited the school and Dunatina last Monday to assess the damage.

He said the people were sad to see the Kiviringka Primary School, Mirina Elementary School and the aid post damaged by the flood.

Former school chairman Aton Siyao said personal belongings were damaged or washed away.

He called on the government to help repair the schools.
