THE Constitutional and Law Reform Commission (CLRC) has begun a nationwide consultation process on the review of elections and related electoral laws, chairman and Henganofi MP Robert Atiyafa says.
Atifaya told the media that all preparations for the review of the Organic Law on National and Local Level Government elections and related electoral laws and systems had been done and the first part of the consultation starts today in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands.
“The election process we are following goes back to 1964 during the colonial administration.
The election process has taken almost 50 years to be replaced.”
Atiyafa said the government and coalition partners who had met in Alotau Accord 2, made the commitment to acknowledge the issues the nation faced and tended to review the organic law on election and electoral process.
“We have put together information from the past four elections that shows that there have been repeatedly same mistakes that have been reoccurring over-time and that lead to eroding of a good system.
