THE Australia-PNG business council said genuine consultation with extractive industries prior to changing legislations is always commendable, says vice-president Ian Kemish.
Kemish praised senior PNG cabinet ministers including National Planning Minister Sam Basil, Finance Minister Charles Abel, Police Minister Bryan Kramer and Commerce and Industry Minister Wera Mori for their response during the recent PNG-Australia Ministerial Forum to representations about potential changes to mining legislation.
Kemish, who served as Australian High Commissioner to PNG from 2009-2013, said: “There was a clear commitment from the PNG ministers to genuine consultation with industry prior to parliamentary consideration of any changes to the mining legislation.”
