Contract with colleges welcomed

Letters

I WELCOME the new contract between the Department of Higher Education Research Science and Technology (DHERST) and colleges.
The transition from the Education Department and the Teaching Services Commission (TSC) governance to DHERST has progressed well as scheduled and all the 700-plus academic staff of the 45 colleges are excited and eager to go into the processes.
This is a new experience that the staff are looking forward to.
Systematically with the former employer the TSC, we have never signed contracts and such is a new method for us who are currently with DHERST.
We are enthusiastic to meaningfully adhere to the expectations of the DHERST and its administrative protocols as well as learning new methods of discharging teaching duties and performing other related duties and responsibilities.
This is the right timing for such transformation and we believe that it will boost academic performance among the students over the four years of studies to graduate with Bachelor of Education in Primary leading to greater improvements in teaching and learning in our primary schools nationwide.
Teachers are very important and are part and parcel of shaping and moulding students in the education system.
Therefore, students accepted to teacher’s colleges must be enrolled based on Grade Point Average of 2.4 and above.
Students are continued to be taught and trained both in theoretical and practical programmes so that our education system in the country may be able to compete well in the world.
I salute the contributors who have studied concepts and contemplated on the transition to bail out the colleges and shift to the higher level journey in education for our country.
