A LOCAL contractor in Morobe has been commended for its effort in building a teacher’s house within a month in a district where project completions have been normally slow.
Nawaeb MP Kennedy Wenge said he was grateful for the quality of work done by the Landlike General Contractors (LGC), adding that his district had issues of incomplete projects in the schools where contractors had left without completing work.
Wenge said this was the first project given to the contractor (LGC) and they had demonstrated that they had the capacity, resources and manpower to complete the task to standard and in good time.
“Issues with integrated financial management system (IFMS) have really affected service delivery in the district,” he said of the challenge the company faced.
Wenge said the three-bedroom house was for the grade eight teacher at Hobu Primary School to be accommodated at the school in order to better prepare students for their national exams.
Wenge made the comments at the opening of the teacher’s house last Wednesday.
He appealed to the community, teachers and students to work together and look after projects delivered by the district development authority (DDA).
LGC owner Samson Temparui said the Nawaeb DDA awarded the project at a cost of K150,000.
He said their plan was to have the house completed in three months but due to the urgency, work was fast tracked with construction starting in October and ending in November.
