WORKS Minister Francis Awesa says contractor China Railway International has been given a show-cause letter regarding the construction of the Lae-Nadzab Highway.

He was commenting on Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s disappointment with the slow progress of the work carried out by the company on the K560 million four-lane highway from Lae to Nadzab in Morobe.

Awesa said he had “given notice (to CRI) to perform, otherwise, we terminate you”.

“I’ve done that in March before I was suspended as a result of the leadership tribunal issue,” he said.

“I’ve given them a two-month notice.

“I will revisit, find out where we are, and will have no hesitation to terminate them.” O’Neill told Parliament last Friday that the Government’s concern was raised by Works with the company which had now sub-contracted some of its work to local companies, to speed up the project.
