KEYS to 17 police houses and two 12-room (single) quarters at the police barracks in Mendi, Southern Highlands, were presented to the police by contractor BK Construction Ltd on Thursday.
The construction of the K13.5 million Australian standard homes funded by the National Government through the Oil Search Ltd tax credit scheme are complete and police ready to move in after formal opening in a few weeks.
BK Construction Ltd managing director Peter Nupiri said the project consisted of 17 three-bedroom executive houses, two 12-person barracks, bulk earthworks, civil work and associated infrastructures.
The houses are equipped with household items and Nupiri will bring their belongings and move in.
Office said the contractor was supposed to build 20 executive houses but constructed 17 because of complaints by landowners that forced the contractor to carry out massive earthworks on a nearby land, resulting in a waste of resources.
“Many times, contracts are awarded to contractors which see incomplete work or little work done and money used up, robbing the people of Southern Highlands,” he said.
“It is a privilege the Government has given back to the people of Southern Highlands who are the host of oil and gas, the impacted provincial and district.”
and local level governments.
“I have given back to the province quality work worth the money given and not for profit.”
