A COOPERATIVE society was formed in Popondetta last week to provide economic empowerment and services to the people.
The Wawanga Cooperative Society Ltd was formed in response to the needs of the people living in the Upper Kumusi River, Sohe.
About 5,000 people living in Wawanga do not have access to government services because they live in remote areas.
Chairman and director Badia Kibidi said the society would provide what the people needed.
“These people have waited for so long for economic development and want to participate through the society,” Kibidi said.
It intends to help Wawanga people by venturing into small to medium enterprises and provide services such as the upgrading of two airstrips, aid posts, schools, wireless radio communication, law and order offices, mills, solar power, water supply, vehicles, tertiary education scholarships, churches, and emergency.
Sohe MP Henry Amuli and Northern Governor Gary Juffa assured the people of Wawanga of their support for the cooperative society.
