A POLICE constable has appeared in court charged with unlawfully entering a private property, damaging property and firing a gun.
East Sepik police commander Supt Albert Beli did not name the officer who appeared in court yesterday. But he confirmed that the officer allegedly entered the premises of Daniel Yakari and threatened the occupants with a gun.
According to Beli, the complaint was lodged two months ago but no action was taken on the officer.
He said the case was an example of police officers “not committed” to their work.
“So many police cases are here (have not been) attended to. Police officers are only giving half of their time to their job and the other half doing personal businesses using police cars.
“In my first parade as the provincial commander I advised them to be committed to law and order, and be professional in their conduct. This case is just the beginning of many clean up to be done.”
Beli has urged his officers to set the example for citizens to follow.
Beli said he would make sure officers who abused authority and resources would be dealt with “regardless of their ranks in the force”.
