Cop charged with stealing, damaging vehicle

PORT Moresby Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’dranou says a police constable has been charged with stealing and damaging a motor vehicle.
“This suspect, who had served less than two years in the force, went into hiding for seven months after allegedly stealing and damaging a vehicle. He was caught and arrested on Monday,” N’dranou said..
“And he has been suspended from duty for 21 days from Tuesday.”
N’dranou said that he had allegedly took a vehicle from a garage without the owner’s concern.
“So the owner, who is his brother-in-law, reported the matter to the police in April. And since then he went into hiding until he was found on Monday and charged.”
Meanwhile, there was an attempted break-in at the amoury at the McGregor Police Barracks on Wednesday night. The suspects were disturbed by duty police officers and fled, N’dranou said.
