A POLICE officer who faces a rape charge involving an underage girl has been suspended from the force.
He is based in Madang and has been released on a K2,000.
According to police, the 13-year-old girl was picked up by the policeman in a police vehicle – with another policeman as passenger – from the Wagol bus stop.
The girl was forced to drink alcohol and later taken to the traffic office. At the office, police said she was forced to drink more and smoke also.
Later, he was dropped off with the girl at the Divine Word back gate, where there was a short cut to the Clifton Barracks.
Police alleged that the girl was raped at the Divine Word field some time after 10pm.
She spent the night with relatives.
When her mother learnt the girl had been seen with the officer earlier, she went to the officer’s home and approached his wife who became angry and with others assaulted her.
