TWO suspects have been apprehended and charged by police in Bulolo, Morobe, after an incident relating to the local level government election, which left one person dead and two others hospitalised last week.
Morobe police commander Supt Alex N’Drasal said police in Bulolo had apprehended the suspects and charged them in relation to the shooting of a man and injuring of other two.
N’Drasal said his men were expected to make more arrests as investigations into the LLG election-related violence continued.
Police reports stated that a fight broke out on July 28 in which supporters of former Bulolo mayor allegedly fired gun shots killing a man and wounding two others. N’Drasal said the fight broke out among the supporters of the former mayor and the winner of the Bulolo town mayor seat.
“Police, in the process, have also confiscated firearms and are closely monitoring the situation in Bulolo town, Wau and Menyamya,” he said.
N’Drasal said the situation in Bulolo was back to normal.
In another election-related incident, Kabwum headquarters had some of its houses were burnt down last week, N’Drasal said.
“The fight is election related between rival groups.
“It happened when supporters of the losing candidate clashed with the supporters of the winning candidate.”
