TWO police constables in East New Britain have been arrested and charged over the death of a 15-year-old male student.
Acting provincial police commander Chief Insp Gabriel Bandy said the incident occurred two weeks ago at Rabaul police station.
It was believed that the deceased was a grade eight student at St Martin’s Primary School in Rabaul.
The suspects are currently in police custody awaiting completion of investigation and a doctor’s post mortem report.
They are expected to appear in court next week.
Chief Insp Bandy was not able to give a full report as he was on sick leave at the time of the incident.
But he said it was alleged that the deceased was involved in some petty crime with his friends and were brought to the police station for questioning.
Bandy said at the police station, a female police officer was questioning the boys when the suspects came from nowhere and assaulted the deceased.
It was alleged that the suspects hit the deceased on his head with a bamboo and other hard objects.
He said the deceased sustained serious injuries to all parts of his body.
He was brought to Nonga Hospital and died a day later.
