Cops probe misused funds

POLICE in Manus are investigating the misuse of K12,000 belonging to the Manus Disable Association, provincial commander Chief Insp David Yapu says.
“The police report was lodged by the association’s deputy chairman Bill Tundu,” he added.
Tundu alleged that between January and August 2021, more than K12,000 was withdrawn from BSP bank without the knowledge of association office bearers. He said the funds were donations but were allegedly abused by some association officials.
“The association is a non-governmental agency and received little funds from the Government and other donors. Such funds must be used wisely for the intended purposes to benefit the association,” he added.
Chief Insp Yapu said the matter was referred to the Criminal Investigations Department investigators.
