Cops probing cult activities

MADANG police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang is leading a group of policemen to investigate cult activities that are allegedly terrorising villages in Nankina valley in Rai Coast.
They were flown there in a helicopter and arrived yesterday afternoon.
“We still do not have enough information but are still gathering some from leaders in Meibu village and will soon proceed to the alleged crime scene that reported on social media,” acting Supt Rubiang said.
“Because of the rough terrain, police have to work with the leaders to find the best option to deal with the alleged issues.
“I thank those who have identified the alleged problems and had made it viral in social media, which prompted our response.
“I thank the missionaries who had the access to report the matter for us to see.
“We could not make it the same day when it was reported because of transport so some of my officers went by boat to Saidor Station and waited for me there.
“We were then airlifted by chopper to the station yesterday afternoon and we went to Meibu.”
He said policemen were on the ground and investigations were progressing and arrests could be made soon.
“Experienced officers from various sections are with the criminal investigations department leader,” acting Supt Rubiang said.
“We thank the provincial government and the leaders who assisted for the helicopter service.”
Reports on social media alleged that a 15-year-old girl was abducted, two men were killed and 31 houses were torched by cult members.
