FIFTEEN thousand kina in prize money is on the table at the 2022 Lae City Eight Ball Billiard Corporate Challenge.
The three-month competition is sponsored by Aviat Social and Sporting Club with support sponsors Asi Surveyors Ltd, Oracle Pacific Ltd and SP Brewery also coming board to support the event which was launched in Lae, Morobe, on Thursday.
The eight-team competition cued off on Saturday. The teams are Aviat Club Pokies, Lae Auto Clinic, Guard Dog Security Services (GDSS), Trista Construction Ltd, Innovative Industries Ltd, Hornibrooks NGI Ltd and David & David Lawyers.
Games coordinator Jonathan Cavanagh said the competition would run for about 10 weeks with round-robin matches and then a week of finals on the last week of October. Cavanagh said organisers were confident of a success competition with more responsibilities placed on team captains.
Club president Karo Gamoga said the annual event started in 2017 and was for companies and corporate business houses but private teams were most welcome to join in.
Gamoga laid down some house rules for players’ participation in the competition with discipline emphasised.
“Before we started this competition we had no sponsors so the club decided to sponsor the competition before some sponsors came on board,” he said.
“Sponsors are very important because of the prize money and they expect a certain degree of appreciation.”
