Corporate Touch comp aims to increase women’s division

THE Corporate Touch Port Moresby Inc is aiming to increase women’s participation in touch footy this year in its drive to raise the code’s standard, president Elsie Girisa says.
Girisa said they had set a new target this year to focus on gender equality and women’s inclusion because of their low participation over the years. “We have now decided to raise the bar for women in touch footy especially in our association, including our female referees to be part of the matches and importantly see women turn up for games every weekend. We want diversity and we want to see inclusion,” Girisa said.
“There’s a very big gap, we have so much males dominating this code in the past years which is supposed to be a diverse game. Encouraging more female engagement will help achieve a milestone.”
Girisa said they achieved their first target set for this year.
“The first milestone we achieved was our certification of incorporation under the IPA which now we are tax compliant with IRC,” she said.
“We are managing our administrative duties with policies in place.”
Meanwhile, the CTPM competition is into round one game two matches at the Murray Barracks oval, with an increased participation this year.”
