Council calls for stimulus

MSME (micro, small and medium enterprise) Council president Des Yaninen says he would like to see the Government allocating a significant portion of its economic stimulus package to MSMEs.
Yaninen told The National yesterday that this would assist small businesses during this tough period and control socioeconomic problems.
“The Government is putting together an economic stimulus package of K500 million for the sector,” he said.
“We would like a significant portion of that be allocated to MSMEs to help them throughout this tough time.
“In the absence of a social security system, the more money filters down to the grass roots via small business, the more you are able to keep under control socioeconomic problems that are associated with poverty like crime and poor health.”
Yaninen said the sooner the country contained Covid-19 and return to business the better.
“If the virus doesn’t kill us then the economic crisis will,” he said.
