YOUTH leaders in Moresby South have formed a council to address law and order issues in their community.
Law and order in the district was the main concern which newly-elected chairman Barnabas Lavapo highlighted after the formation of the Moresby South district youth development council at the Koki community hall yesterday.
Lavapo said establishing the youth council created an avenue for the youths of Moresby South to work together with churches, non-governmental organisations, business houses, community, private and government agencies to tackle law and order issues arising within the community.
He said in order for change to take place, all his executives elected and others interested individuals who wished to join would go through rehabilitation training process to be prepared to perform their duties.
Lavapo thanked the National Youth Development Authority (NYDA) for their help in forming the council.
“Proper youth council settings were never seen and we are fortunate to have them (NYDA) legally establishing this council,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of NYDA director-general, deputy director-general policy Robi Duri said the Moresby South youth council was a good start in organising the district’s youth.
“NYDA is like a boat or a ship or a car, when it takes off the youth council executives plays important roles not to live anyone behind because the authority has a plan. Where there is no plan people perish,” Duri said.
