THE Papua New Guinea Business Council has seen an increase in its involvement in the region, according to president David Toua.

He said that on Monday at the council’s annual general meeting.

“This has largely been through my appointment as the Senior Member of the APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) business advisory council by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill,” Toua said.

He said the council secretariat had been assigned the role as the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation business advisory council secretariat which would see the frequency of talks in Papua New Guinea and abroad.

“It will provide members the opportunity to engage in this unique forum,” he said.

“The members can also participate in prestigious events such as the annual Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation CEO summit.

Toua said the council was delighted to host current ABAC (APEC business advisory council) chairman Doris Magsaysay Ho of the Philippines, who had agreed to allow Papua New Guinea to host a number of ABAC/APEC dialogues in the Philippines.

He said the country would host the ABAC next year.

“Next year in May, Papua New Guinea will host ABAC members for ABAC II, which 200 business leaders from APEC Asia Pacific Economic Conference economies will attend,” he said.

“This will help in the preparations of the larger engagements in 2018 for ABAC 4 and the APEC CEO summit.”
