The country should honour Sir Michael

Letters

MY heart and I believe that of most Papua New Guineans sank with great sadness when we saw the picture of Grand chief Sir Michael Somare wiping his tears after making his farewell speech in Parliament on Tuesday.
This gesture showed the resilience and determination that have been the hallmarks of Somare who led a nation of a thousand tribes to believe that we can be one in diversity.
The grand chief never had prominent constitutional lawyers, Dr John Nonggorr and Dr Eric Kwa, to draw up the National Directive Principles and the Constitution.
It’s truly amazing how Somare and his team of nationalists achieved political independence and nationhood for the country.
The whole country must be given the opportunity to give our founding father the farewell he truly deserves.
