THE country has learnt a lot from the leaders of Apec economies, especially about free trade and will develop policies to reflect it, an official says.
Apec Business Advisory Council of PNG chairman David Toua says the protection of free trade was one of the topics promoted during the two-day summit.
The theme was “inclusion in the age of disruption”.
“We had the benefit of listening to some great leaders in terms of their views and opinions about number of things,” Toua said.
“Agendas that we are really promoting are protection of free trade, inclusion and addressing the digital revolution topics such as education.
“Ultimately from a PNG perspective, we benefit because when we listen to what they say, we look at our own policies and develop them.
“The result will be that more of our people will be brought into our economy. Really this year is about establishing the building block for what we do in the future.
“Free trade has worked for a number of economies in Apec, brought a lot of people out of poverty, brought a lot of people into economy.”
