EDUCATION secretary Dr Uke Kombra says more school inspectors are needed to match the high number of teachers in service despite Government restrictions.“There is a huge demand and we will have to increase the number of inspectors,” he said. “We would like to increase but we have been restricted not to recruit new people, we really need to increase because of the number of teachers.“The Government has put a stop to additional recruitment so there is a limit until they lift the ban, otherwise we will have to deal with our own numbers.” Earlier, Teaching Service Commission chairman Samson Wangihomie said inspectors were “the eyes and ears of the secretary”.“They go where the secretary cannot go and speak on policy matters in educational meetings and conferences. It is a prestigious position with a high calling to deliver quality education and teaching services through your supervision and mentoring of teachers in curriculum  implementation, financial management and general management of schools. “Your job is challenging amidst the growing number of teachers, education institutions and high enrolment of students and among all, the attitudes of teachers these days, of course, we have capacity issues as well in inspections. Meanwhile, Education Minister Jimmy Uguro said inspectors had received K10 million funding this year to do their jobs in their respective provinces.
