NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop says Papua New Guinea needs to unite to end gender-based violence (GBV) in the community to reach the Vision 2050 goal of a healthy, wealthy and smart society.
“Violence against women and girls continues to be a big problem in our country and city, we must continue to raise this issues because these are the challenges we face,” he said.
Parkop spoke at a campaign walk to end GBV and other forms of violence by Moresby South women’s groups yesterday.
He said the campaign was part of the Department of Community Development, Youth and Religion’s 20 days of activism initiative to promote human rights and awareness to end GBV.
He said laws would not completely stop the problem and it was up to people’s attitude to change their mindsets.
