PAPUA New Guineans living in Lae and people of the nine districts of Morobe will have an opportunity to view the body of former Morobe governor and statesmen Sir Jerry Nalau at Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium during tomorrow’s haus krai.
Daki Mao, a former Umi-Atzera president and a member of the haus krai committee, confirmed the details yesterday.
“Sir Jerry was the first Papua New Guinean who served as a district commissioner when we were still under the Australian government,” Mao said.
“He had a wonderful career as a public servant and resigned to take up politics.
“When in politics, the term of premiership system was about to change.
“He is the last premier of the Morobe government under the reformed system that saw regional members could become the governor and he was the first governor for the province.”
Mao, on behalf of the family, acknowledged the presence of Huon Gulf MP Ross Seymour and Lae MP and Minister for Lands and Physical Planning John Rosso.
“We welcome the people of Morobe, PNG citizens and the international community who wish to come and participate in the ceremony,” he said.
“We are also mindful of the Covid-19 protocols and will discuss it.”
