A COUPLE was charged in a committal court in Waigani with the killing of their tenant in Port Moresby last month.
Magistrate Danny Wakikura read the charge in court to Dianne Hehona, 40, from Bana’s Boku village in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (Arob) and her husband Donald Hehona, 46, of Maiwara village in Alotau, Milne Bay.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Mckenzie Ken told the court that the couple was out on National Court bail.
It was alleged that between 5pm and 7pm on Feb 16, at Kennedy Estate, the Hehonas argued with James Maino Chamilou and his family over overdue rent payments.
The arguments led to a fight in which Dianne allegedly threw a punch at Chamilou who blocked the punch and allegedly shook Hehona who fell.
However, before falling, Hehona allegedly grabbed Chamilou’s collar and they both fell to the ground.
Chamilou allegedly fell and hit his head on the iron bar fence and his chest on Hehona’s folded knees.
It was alleged that he fell unconscious and was rushed to hospital where he passed on.
It was also alleged that Hehona had also restrained Chamilou’s son from helping his father.
The hearing was then adjourned to May 31 and the couple’s remand was also extended.
