WEWAK police arrested a man and his wife for the murder of East Sepik University Centre director John Gillichuku on Thursday.
East Sepik commander Supt Albert Beli said the wife was arrested on Friday and the husband, who allegedly stabbed Gillichuku to death, was arrested on Saturday.
“The couple is being held in the Wewak police station lock-up,” he added.
“We are still investigating the cause and motive for the killing.”
According to initial police reports, Gillichuku was dropping off the murder suspect’s wife between 7pm and 8pm when he was attacked. “The man came out from hiding in a bush and stabbed Gillichuku twice on the back of his head and then the neck with a knife, killing him on the spot,
“I do not want the public or the relatives to do anything because the suspects involved in the murder are now in police custody,” Supt Beli said.
“Investigations are in progress.
“I want witnesses at the scene to help police in investigations,” he said.
Gillichuku is from West Yangoru’s Kobaibus Village.
Supt Beli said he was pleased with Gillichuku’s family members for not retaliating when they were at the police station on Saturday.
