A MARRIED couple donated 85 cartons of library books to a primary school in the Tebi local level government in Hela last Thursday as Christmas gifts to the community.
Hangapo Primary School head teacher Howard Matiabe told The National that Edward Sassingan and wife Flora presented the library books at Ialibu station in Southern Highlands and were transported to the school.
He said the school had few library books and the presentation was meaningful, it was a real Christmas present for the students.
“We do not have enough books in the library, students have been wishing if their library was equipped with books,” Matiabe said.
“Students will be surprised when they return from their holidays for the next academic year.”
He said unlike schools in other centres that were equipped with learning materials and access to computers, the Tebi local level government in Tari-Pori had witnessed dozens of tribal fights and many children were deprived of their education.
Matiabe said social issues had subsided and this donation of library books would help the students and teachers.
