Court asked to review appointment

TWO senior police officers are asking the court to review the appointment of David Manning as Police Commissioner of Police.
Assistant Police Commissioner (Human Resources) Sylvester Kalaut and former deputy commissioner, operations Fred Yakasa filed a joint application seeking leave to review Manning’s appointment last December. Their application is expected to come before National Court judge Justice David Canning on May 13.
Justice Cannings, during the directions hearing of the application yesterday, said the case was significant because it involved a high position.
Kalaut’s lawyer David Dotaona said outside court yesterday they wanted to review the decision of National Executive Council which appointed Manning to the top position in the constabulary.
Dotaona said they were questioning the legality of the appointment and if the requirements for such an appointment had been met.
