CHIEF Justice Sir Gibbs Salika says the completion of the new court complex depends on available funding.
“The new court complex is dependent on the money that we have,” he said.
“Money is coming in dribs and drabs.
“I had hoped that it will be completed by this year.
“But the kind of money we got this year shows that it might not even be completed and so I’m hoping that it might be completed next year.”
Sir Gibbs was giving an update on the court complex construction.
“If we are able to and if we are lucky, it might be completed by the end of next year,” he said.
“The projections were that in June, our staff would move in but whether that is going to happen or not, I don’t know because it all depends on the financial situation.”
He said work was currently going on and the contractor was doing a good job.
Sir Gibbs said last year that the Government paid less than K10 million on a monthly basis to the judiciary.
The new court complex was initially scheduled to be completed in 2018.
The ground breaking ceremony was done in 2015.
Sir Gibbs also said the old court house would still be used by judges when the new complex was completed.
