A 32-YEAR-OLD man charged with grievous bodily harm was denied bail by the Lae Committal Court on Wednesday.
Magistrate Pious Tapil denied bail for Toy Marcus from Yako village in Kagua, Southern Highlands, due to seriousness of the assault committed.
Magistrate Tapil asked Marcus’ guarantor, Marcus Kuta, that if he was prepared to guarantee the accused would return to court after bail, then why didn’t he look after him in the first place.
He told Kuta that it was his poor effort while Marcus was under his care that contributed to his bad behaviour.
The court adjourned the next mention for Marcus to August.
Police alleged that a drunk Marcus terrorised the community at Nine-Mile outside Lae with a bush knife on Sept 10, 2021.
Marcus allegedly attacked Waine Tom with the bush knife cutting several fingers at around 10pm that night.
He chased the victim who managed to run away.
Tom was later taken to Angau Memorial Hospital and treated.
