A 32-YEAR-OLD woman charged with cyber harassment for accessing a Facebook account without consent was freed by the Waigani committal court for undue delay by the prosecution.
Magistrate Garry Unjo yesterday discharged Glenyss Riman, from Buyang’s Ngavalus village in New Ireland, after the court was told that the case had been in court well over the mandatory prosecution period without any proper reason.
The police file read that Riman, between October 2019 and January 2021, without authorisation, allegedly accessed Arthor Exton’s Facebook account and made threatening and abusive posts towards Exton’s Facebook friends.
The file alleged that Riman pretended to be Exton at the time she made the posts, mainly targeting Exton’s female friends.
As a result, Exton was psychologically affected after learning about the posts Riman made to his Facebook friends, hence some of his friends called him a pervert, vile, sick and pathetic.
Riman was then brought to the police station and questioned, where she admitted and was charged with two counts of cyber harassment and unauthorised access or hacking.
