A WARRANT of arrest has been issued for a Chinese man who is in contempt of court for failing to turn in his passport and travel documents.
Central Committal Court magistrate Marcus Nandape issued the warrant yesterday after finding out that Christopher Ling Soon Wei failed to comply with orders of Oct 19 to surrender his passport.
He was arrested and charged with false pretence and later released on a police bail of K1,000.
It was alleged that Wei, 26, from Bintangor in Sarawak, Malaysia, through false pretence, intended to defraud Samsom Sakare and Erick Korakon of K23,000.
It is alleged that in July 2017, Sakare and Korakon ventured into an agreement with Wei to be business partners.
Both complainant made a deal with Wei to purchase counterfeit boxes of Cambridge cigarettes from him.
Wei was allegedly selling a box of counterfeit Cambridge to both for K4,000.
An original box of Cambridge costs K8,000.
The business deal ran smoothly in 2017, 2018 and this year on Sept 17, when Wei allegedly received K15,000 from Koran for four boxes of Cambridge and Sarake paid K8,000 for two boxes.
Wei never delivered the boxes.
The matter was reported to police and Wei was taken in for questioning.
He allegedly admitted receiving the payments and told the police that he didn’t deliver the boxes of Cambridge because they were destroyed by Customs officers at the wharf.
The matter was adjourned to Dec 19.

  • The two men laying the complains are equally wrong by dealing with counterfeit goods and should be charged as well. Either they are equally stupid to press charge against Mr Wei or the heart ache of loosing their monies that brought their gang and their operation out to the authorities without realizing the consequences.
