Court orders couple to compensate assaulted man

THE Boroko District Court has ordered a man and woman to pay compensation of K1,500 for assaulting another man.
Magistrate Alex Kalandi issued the order in court on Wednesday to Rueben Yabati and Pauline Rueben.
Both were charged with assaulting Smith Wallen at Morata in NCD on February 6.
Kaindi ordered the pair to pay the compensation within the next two weeks.
He told them that if they did not comply with the order, they would be remanded at Bomana jail for three months.
The court was told that Wallen was Yabati’s relative.
According to the police report, the pair assaulted Wallen with assistance by others.
The medical examination report stated that the victim sustained serious injuries as a result of the attack.
Kalandi made his ruling after the defendants’ guilty plea submissions were presented in court.
The court dismissed the case and ordered the refund of K300 and K200 bail money to the defendants.
