Court orders woman to compensate gold owner

National

A WOMAN has been jailed for four years for misappropriating more than K100,000 for the gold she sold which belonged to another women.
National Court judge Justice Panuel Mogish ordered Kila Veropo, 34, of Keapara village in Rigo, Central, to compensate the gold owner with K12,922.60, saying “the amount would not satisfy the complainant but at least she is paid something for her gold”.
Veropo pleaded not guilty to one count of conspiracy and one count of misappropriating K105,340.50.
The court was told that Veropo owned a deregistered company called Veropo Commodity Agency which she used to enter into an agreement with Anna Sani to export gold.
The gold was transported to Australia, sold by a third-party company, and the money deposited to the account of Kileon Flowers owned by Veropo.
Sani was not aware of it.
Veropo’s lawyer asked the court for leniency saying she was a first-time offender.
Justice Mogish told Veropo to pay the amount into the National Court and Supreme Court trust account within six months.

  • Why ask the court for the leniency when you knew very well that you were stealing from the one who had trusted you for a good return. First time offender!?… shame on you!!

    • K One Kora,

The Accused was not a Gold Buyer. She was only there to Facilitate the funds and she was after her commission which never been eventuated and the complainant filed a law suit against her thinking that the accused misappropriated the K105,000 for her own use. But there was no evidence provided by the State.

  • First Time Offender?? Leniency?? How stupid does she think she can get away with her cunnning way to reap off a hard working individual who wanted to make a honest living. She intentionally meant to deceive the innocent. A professional con artist like her should be put behind bars.

    • Tugu Ibugu Alumale Igini,

Only professional woman con and get into hiding. Such woman like her stood up for her right because she knew very well that she was only a facilitator and she was owed K8,000
      00 commission.

  • Independe Obeserver,

I bet you really want to know why she was granted leniency. As a first time offender, by law the court gives leniency and she deserves it. There is no proof and evidence states K105,000 was deposited into her Bank Account and was misappropriated.
